Gaia’s Glasswear is incredibly proud to announce that studio owner and glass artist Krystal Jones has been officially named a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Strathcona County Award of Excellence for Arts, Culture and Heritage.
This civic honour, presented by Mayor Rod Frank and the municipal government, recognizes outstanding individuals, businesses, and grassroots organizations whose visionary leadership, dedication, and creative contributions have a profound, lasting impact on the cultural fabric of Strathcona County and the broader Edmonton Metropolitan Region.

Every piece of glass art that earned Krystal this civic distinction is engineered through a disciplined, high-temperature fabrication process focused on structural integrity and artistic depth:
1.Anatomical Curation & Material Composition: Phase 1.
In her Sherwood Park studio, Krystal hand-scores and cuts sheets of tested, chemically compatible art glass, blending complex pigments to translate native Canadian landscapes into glass forms.
2.High-Heat Thermal Transformation: Phase 2.
Raw glass layouts are subjected to intense heat up to 1,450°F in a specialized studio kiln, or sculpted live under a 2,000°F oxygen-propane torch flame to create smooth, fire-polished contours.
3.Precision Annealing & Molecular Stabilization: Phase 3.
To eliminate internal thermal stress and guarantee generational durability, the glass undergoes a computer-controlled cooling cycle (annealing). Once cold, pieces are finished with hypoallergenic, surgical stainless steel findings.
4.Civic Enrichment & Engagement: Phase 4.
Finished collections are exhibited at premiere regional exhibitions, fine art boutiques, and outdoor open-air galleries, connecting the public directly with contemporary Canadian glass artistry.
